The city of Winchester’s Planning Commission gave the green light to Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury’s proposal to expand its retirement community in August 2020.

Those plans for the Villas include adding 97 one-and to-bedroom residences to the not-for-profit Lifecare Community situated on 87 wooded acres. Each Villa building will have nine or 10 residences with a community room for gatherings, and personal garage space.

SVWC is a community in a natural environment with easy access to walking paths that meander around a meadow and pond. The Villas expansion illustrates this. This residential concept is appearing across the country, blending the best features of traditional cottage living with the convenience of small apartment buildings. It will be a setting unlike any other at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury. SVWC is home to nearly 400 residents and celebrated 30 years in 2017.
